H.E.A.R. Journey

At KMBC, we believe spiritual growth thrives in community. Each week, our entire church family—children, youth, and adults—reads and reflects on the same passages of Scripture. These daily readings align with the Word of Life quiet time materials used by our Gophers, Olympians, and Youth Ministry, helping families grow together and creating opportunities for deeper conversations at home. This shared rhythm strengthens our discipleship groups and unites us as a body of believers, walking through God’s Word together—learning, applying, and encouraging one another in Christ.

What is the H.E.A.R. Method?

God doesn’t want us to sit back and wait for truth to drop into our laps. Instead, He invites us to actively pursue Him. Jesus said,

“Keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” — Matthew 7:7

Before you open your Bible, pause and sincerely ask God to speak to you. This isn’t just a habit—it’s essential. The Holy Spirit helps us understand God’s Word (1 Corinthians 2:12–14), and we should echo the prayer of David:

“Open my eyes so that I may contemplate wonderful things from Your instruction.” — Psalm 119:18

H.E.A.R. is a method of scripture journaling that helps us interact with scripture in a meaningful and personal way:

H – Highlight

Highlight the verse or verses that stand out to you.

  • What book of the Bible are you reading?
  • Which chapter and verses spoke to you the most?

E – Explain

Explain what the passage means in its context.

  • Who was it originally written to, and why?
  • How does it connect to the verses before and after it?
  • What truth is the Holy Spirit revealing here?

A – Apply

Apply God’s Word to your own life.

  • What does this passage mean for you today?
  • Is God speaking to something specific in your life?
  • How should this change your thoughts, actions, or priorities?

R – Respond

Respond to what you’ve read in prayer and action.

  • What is God calling you to do as a result of this passage?
  • How will you live differently?
  • Write out a personal prayer based on what God showed you.

Whether you’re a child learning about Jesus for the first time or an adult deepening your walk with the Lord, the H.E.A.R. Journey provides a shared pathway for growing in faith—together.
