Who We Are

A Welcome from Pastor Don Pegg

Welcome, and thank you for taking time to learn more about Kinnett Memorial Baptist Church.

More than anything, we want you to know who Jesus is—His love, His grace, and the life-changing hope found in Him. Everything we do at KMBC is centered on exalting Christ and pointing people to the truth of the gospel.

He is the reason we gather, the source of our joy, and the hope for our community. If you’re searching for answers, for peace, or simply a place to belong, know that Jesus is the one who welcomes you with open arms—and so do we.

I invite you to join us for worship, to hear the Word of God preached, and to experience the transforming presence of Christ. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We would be honored to walk with you as you seek to know Him more.

In Christ alone,
Pastor Don Pegg

Our Story

Kinnett Memorial Baptist Church began as Southside Mission on March 12, 1939, in a five-room house on the corner of Morehead and Fix Street in Burlington, North Carolina. It was started under the leadership of Rev. A.D. Kinnett, then pastor of First Baptist Church of Burlington, who had a heart for reaching the south side of the city with the gospel.

In November 1943, Rev. J.H. Waugh, Jr., who was physically blind, became the mission’s first full-time pastor. His faithful leadership and spiritual vision helped establish the church’s foundation of truth and compassion.

In 1954, the mission was renamed Kinnett Memorial Baptist Church in honor of Rev. Kinnett’s dedication and lasting influence.

From those humble beginnings to today, KMBC has remained more than just a building—it is a spiritual home where people are invited to know Jesus, grow in His Word, and live out their faith.

Our Mission

At KMBC, we are committed to:

  • Reaching the lost with the gospel of Jesus Christ
  • Teaching the truths of Scripture clearly and faithfully
  • Ministering to people with the love and compassion of Christ

We desire to be a church that makes disciples, strengthens families, and serves our community and beyond—all for the glory of God.
