A Mind to Work

“So built we the wall, and all the wall was joined together to half of it in height; for the people had a mind to work.”  (Nehemiah 4:6)

The people in Nehemiah’s day worked hard at that wall — almost as if they were going to finish it in one day.  It took them fifty-two days, which was quick work at that, but they labored at it so desperately that it looked as if they were trying to do it in a day.  It was that spirit that was with them which roused the attack of the enemy.

Satan never bothers half-hearted Christian people, but once you are desperate for God and become burdened for the salvation of men, then all hell will oppose you.  Sanballat and Tobias were both the agents of Satan.  Their scorn was a cloak for something else, they were angry that the work was progressing.  If the people jeer at our Christian testimony today, it is because they have no argument against the gospel.  The world will always be angry at any message which exposes sin.

Watch what happens when you get up with others and try to rebuild the walls that have fallen down.  See if all hell will not come against you when you rise up to build.  The enemy of God will try to ridicule and loathe the work you are trying to complete.  But if we stay away from the rubbish of the wall that has fallen, and refuse the activity of action, then you will find your own life surrounded by passivity and selfishness.  Satan has no reason to disturb you for he has you in his catch and he knows the work will not be approached.

If we are not building then we are tearing down.  If we are not with Christ then we are against Him.  Either we will love Him or hate Him, there is no middle ground.  Thank God for Nehemiah and the people who had a mind to work, a heart to pray, and an eye to watch.  The apostle Paul said, “…I labored more abundantly then they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me” (I Corinthians 15:10).

    “…except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain” (Psalm 127:1).

    The Eternal City just celebrated the moving of the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Israel.  Already the applause is monumental but death is a reality as we have already heard about the deaths of thirty-seven.  There are many who hate Israel around the world, and there are now many who fear for the United States since this declaration that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel.

    What do we take with us from this move?  You and I have the opportunity to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.  There will be no peace till we see the Prince of Peace coming to take over.  The Slanderer, the Devil is mad.  And in this move the world is setting itself up for the Antichrist to come and lead a federation of nations, though you and I understand the prophecy of the Bible, they do not.

    We must pray and understand that what we are watching is the volatile situation that is escalating to war.  Even though we are very glad for the move of the United States, we are also cognizant of the only Protector we have and His name is Jesus.  Unbelief is prominent today in the hearts of many Americans and Israelis, but we thank God that in His sovereign hand we are watching the soon coming of our Lord.

    We thank God for the bold move, for whoever blesses Israel God will bless.  But we must be very concerned and must pray for the work and will of God.  Don’t allow this season to pass you by.  Take notice and take up your mantle for the glory of God.

  • Every Family Needs A Moral Relative At The Helm 

    “My son, forget not my laws, but let thine heart keep my commandments” (Proverbs 3:1).

    The best time to tackle a minor problem is before he grows up. The Christian world is in a deep sleep. Nothing but a loud voice will awaken them out of it.

    Loose wires give out no musical notes, but when their ends are fastened, the piano, the harp, the guitar,  or the violin is born. Free steam drives no machine, but harnessed and confined with piston and turbine, it makes possible the great world of machinery. An unhampered river drives no dynamos, but dam it up and you can generate sufficient power to light an entire city.

    Strings that are tightened, steam which is captured, rivers that are harnessed, and children that are disciplined can produce astonishing results. Roy Lessin said, “Rules for children are like a pole that is placed alongside a tall plant growing in the garden. The pole is not  there to stop the plant’s development, but to help guide it into maturity and productivity.”

    Fathers are commanded to put those poles in place. It gives him the joy of watching his sons become mature and productive in his old age. What a tragic waste of potential when fathers do not “bend” their children toward God. Without a plumb-line there is no real joy. History teaches us that the very survival of a nation can depend upon a child having a father who is a moral relative. A dad who is a moral relative knows how to draw the lines in the necessary places.

     

     

     

     

  • Crags or Cages?

     

    “And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavored to go…” (Acts 16:10).

         Charles Spurgeon once said, “I’d rather be a lean bird in the woods than a fat bird in a cage.” What a sad sight to see a caged eagle beating its wings against the bars. But what a sadder sight it is to see a Christian who has given up and resigned to low living among that which is carnal and natural.

        There were a brand of pioneers who braved dangers, crossed 3,000 miles of ocean, and blazed another 3,000 miles of wilderness and desert to make a trail for America. Rugged spirits flocked here from every land. The Fathers of liberty risked security for liberty. Today we have traded liberty for security. And the soul is more fettered than ever because of it.

        What about us and our children? If we feather the nests too well the eaglets will never fly. The baby eagles might complain because they are no longer comfortable, but eaglets do not fly that way. If we feather our nests and feather their nests, taking out as much as possible the thorns, thistles, and prickly things, then be assured that eaglet will not fly as soon as it should, or as powerful as it could.

        Find a crag! Find a mountaintop and climb. Avoid a cage and find a solitary place to meditate “far from the madding crowd’s ignoble strife.” Build your home high. An eagle needs an eyrie. You and I can see the whole battle from the distance. A prophet or a parent sees the whole picture like an eagle from a mountain crag.

  • Liberty

    “Stand fast, therefore, in the Liberty with which Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage” (Galatians 5:1).

    The cross has eliminated sin in the world. We don’t see it or feel as yet but we do know it is coming. God is holy and He can not countenance sin and know this: Sin has been subdued.

    Sinlessness will happen for the child of God when he leaves the earth set for heaven. It may be through death or rapture but the albatross of sin is gone as soon as we head for glory to be with the redeemed of all ages.

    Sinlessness will happen for the earth and for the heavens when God makes a new heaven and a new earth. The Book of Revelation assures us that there will be no more sea, death, tears, sorrow, crying, nor pain. When every vestige of sin is removed God will remove the very effects of sin.

    Times of refreshing are coming. The Kingdom of God rests in the bosom of the child of God. One glorious day we will be totally free from sin. Therefore my fellow believer, stand! Stand in the liberty which Christ has made us free. Do not be confused or entrapped with any sin for God has and will free us from the terrible sorrow of sin! In the mean time live by faith through love to the Father.

  • A Crazy Kind-Of-Love

    “…Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad” (Acts 26:24)

     

    Francois Fenelon said, “To just read the Bible, attend church, and avoid “big” sins – is this passionate, wholehearted love for God?” Is the church missing what God intended her to be? In many ways, and I’m nervous about it, the church is not doing so well.

     

    It used to be that “Good Christians” avoided drinking, drugs, sex, swearing, and fought their desires in order to please God. That is the way many were brought up during the Christian culture of the day. In reality and hindsight, I don’t believe the church’s teachings were incorrect, just incomplete.

     

    If we would get into the Word of God and think Biblically instead of conventionally, it would change our paradigm. Our thinking would explode and it would be exhilarating. We have all we need. We have all of Jesus we need. What we don’t have is to want Jesus more.

     

    Are you bored with American Christianity and that which it offers? Do you want to rise above the plateau of the American style of doing church? Would you want to get to the place where you would rather die than let go of your convictions in Christ?

     

    “More God” and “more life” follows. Not to be immune from self-giving is to realize how wonderful God is. To not hold back anything but to give all is the utmost way to live. To be totally abandoned is to be totally absorbed.

     

    God wants to lead a group of comfortable people into lives of risk and adventure. He wants us to love people like we never have before and to go to extremes to do just that.
